Apple Company

For my last Blog I think I’m going talk about the Apple company. The apple company has came out with all the greatest things in the last past few years, with the MacBook computers, the Ipods, Iphones, and now the latest thing the Ipad. All these new creative things have done a lot to peoples lives and show the way that technology is going in. its hard to find one person in the world that doesn’t own or never used one of these things in their everyday life, I don’t think I haven’t been anywhere these days where I haven’t seen a person with out a Iphone or a Ipod. I feel like these are the biggest items they probably sale and everyone has them. The Ipod I feel like it’s thee biggest thing that apple sales cause it made it a lot easier for people to listen to the music and be able to move around and take it where ever they want to listen to it and now watch movies, or even search the internet. But the Iphone I feel like is the best one, I own one and its probably one the best things I have ever owned it allows me to everything no matter what, I don’t know what I would do with out it its so great to me and as long as the keep making them I’m going to own one.

Wi-Fi

I feel like wi-fi is one the greatest thing to come out in the past few years. It allows people to be on there personal computers almost at any location that has wi-fi. I would say wi-fi doesn’t really affect me to much because I never carry around my laptop or ever have the need to take anywhere with me. But I would say for everyone as a whole it affects them a lot because there probably chatting with someone, doing some work, and or playing some game entertaining themselves. I think this allows people to talk to in a different way and not have to call and just chat it up using all there anytime minutes. I don’t really know if it matters that a lot of food places have free wi-fi unless you plan on being there for a long period of time or if you really have something to do, that you should just sit there and be on your computer. But I can’t really say anything because I’m not one of those types of people. I don’t feel like this is leading us anywhere I just feel like its technology expanding and becoming bigger and better.

Mobile Usage in Africa

Africa has shown one the fastest growths in the expansion of cell phone use, with an estimate of 4.1bn mobile subscriptions, rather then that of 1bn in 2002. Many believe the reason is due to money transfer services that allow people without bank accounts to send money through text messages. These funds are usually transferred to other family members. However the is a vast difference between the poor and rich; less then 1 out of 20 Africans were able to go online from mobile broadband while Americans were up to 43%. Although African has seen a boom in mobile usage, it has been inhibited by Taxation, Low income, widespread illiteracy, unreliable electricity and corruption.

Cell Phones

George has a cell phones and has had it since he was in 8^th grade but back then it was on suppose to be used for emergency, but every year since then it has a evolved into a personal pleasure thing that he cant live with out. If you was too asks George about his cell phone years ago he would told you it was the greatest thing every until his mother shut him down on his usage because the bill use to be too high. But as the years went on she began to let him use a lot more and more just having the time of my life and it was all most the best thing in my life besides basketball. Now if you asked George about his phone since he first got it, I would say a lot of things like I’ve had a lot most every new phone AT&T has ever made until they started making the Iphone. Now my cell phone has a lot most became a part of my body don’t go anywhere with out it, my whole life is in my phone from what I’m going do through the day to checking my bank account with out it, I wouldn’t say I would be lost but I wouldn’t know how to handle myself. I feel like my cell phone has became a big part of my life with texting becoming more popular for people of all ages its made it way easier for me to be able to talk to more people at the same time with out having to hang up and dial a lot of numbers. Also since the started making all these high tech phones I can play games listen music, I think everyday like what doesn’t my cell phone do that I would want it to do.

Telephones

Growing up I didn’t really use the phone that much, I wasn’t really that much of a phone talker cause it was all ways to much hassle with my moms and pops have important business they need to use there phones for so I barely or hardly ever used it unless I was calling to tell my friends I was coming over or they was calling to let me know something. I don’t feel like the telephone helped me as a communicator, I was more of a person to person when people was using the phone when I was younger. If I didn’t have a handy telephone it probably wouldn’t have change my life that much it would have just made me want to talk a little bit more than before. I don’t think it would’ve changed who I am today because the phone wasn’t a big deal but if cell phones would have been as popular as they are today back then I feel like people wouldn’t do to much talking they probably text everything and even house phones would be able to text.

Digital Audio

I get my digital audio buy getting on free downloading websites and downloading the songs onto my laptop. Other than that I don’t download my music, if it’s an artist I like or listen to a lot I go out and buy the CD. Usually when I buy a CD I don’t load it onto my laptop and copy it onto my iTunes where I can put it on my iPod and listen to it through there. Sometimes I do make my own CD’s when I have enough songs that I like and want to listen to in my car. I feel like downloading free music isn’t that bad because its free I mean making CD’s is a way for the artist to get money but sometimes you always don’t want the whole CD’s they just like select songs. No its not stealing if its free, that’s how I feel. But in a way its taking away from an artist making money.

Home Videos

Yes, I have made a home movie before. I made a video of me and my teammates, in Dayton, Oh at the NCAA tournament. I made that video to have a memento, showing my teammates and I off the basketball court and outside of practice. I think people make movies to be able to document memories. I think its very created by the uses of mass, but I also think its silly because it just encourages people to put out mediocre and senseless videos to be viewed by others.

Personal Computer

The first time I ever seen a personal computer was, when I was about 9 or 10, my father worked for a computer company and I brought one home and every since then I’ve exposed to computers. When he first brought it home I was like wow this is the greatest thing ever I was on it everyday and every minute I could be on it. When I first seen the computer I didn’t really think it was it would become a big thing in every bodies life, but ever since then its been the biggest thing, it’s a big thing with everyone. People would have find another way to communicate with each other or another way to find out information that’s going on in other places that your not in.

Victorian Internet

I think that the Internet is a quantitative shift in communication. I feel like it’s just a more advanced telegraph that has added a lot more other things that you can do with it other than just getting information to one another. The telegraph worked in kind of the same way it was used back in the day to send messages and/or information to one another in a quicker, faster way than by the way of horse or train.

I think that it could be argued that the telegraph had a bigger effect on the modern world than the Internet’s original impact has had, because there was nothing like the telegraph when it first came out. So I feel like the people respond to it differently than they do to the Internet. This is not to say that the Internet is not one of the greatest things invented as it changes everyday and gets more advanced by the day. But back then in the time of the telegraph, the telegraph was what it was, nothing more and it wasn’t changing or anything. It was what it was and it was a way to get information to one another faster than ever could have been done before.

The telegraph and the Internet have both had huge impacts on society. They came in very different times and evolved into very different things. Without the telegraph, the Internet would not be what it is today, just as some day another invention will not have been able to be what it is without the Internet.

Streaming Media

Streaming media is the latest thing to hit the streets, and it’s the biggest thing since cable TV. I feel like all the new things in streaming media does have an effect on me, because when I’m on road trips I like to watch TV and DVD’s and since they have invented these things its made trips and things a lot easier to deal with. I care a lot about these things because I feel like life is a lot faster and more exciting with all these new inventions. At the same time, I feel like all these new things has kind of made society a lot more lazy now because people don’t have to go out and go to the movie theater or even go out to the video store to rent a movie. Since all these new things are being invented, people can just use the internet or netflix where the movies get delivered to you. I don’t think that broadcast TV or cable TV will go anywhere because that’s what people still use today to watch a lot of their favorite things. I think that streaming media is a new big up and coming thing but it will just hold its place where it is at now and never be as big as broadcast TV or Cable TV.
